McLean, Va., March. 3, 2014 — UNITY: Journalists for Diversity is pleased to announce the appointment of Eloiza Altoro as interim executive director. Altoro will manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization as it conducts a search for a permanent executive director.
“We are happy that Eloiza will be assisting us as interim executive director during this leadership transition,” said David Steinberg, UNITY president.
Altoro is taking over responsibilities from Interim Executive Director Walt Swanson, who is stepping down after a year and a half. “I want to thank Walt for her dedication to UNITY and for helping guide us during this period,” Steinberg said.
UNITY also welcomes Tomoko Hosaka as AAJA’s newest representative to the UNITY Board, replacing Sharon Chan, who stepped down.
Hosaka is a longtime member of AAJA and served on the national board representing Asia and San Francisco from 2007-2013. She was also a governing board member for the past two years. Hosaka is a journalist-turned-digital media entrepreneur. She is currently chief operating officer of Plympton, whose brands include DailyLit and Rooster, a new curated reading service for the smartphone. She previously worked at Ustream, where she led news content, strategy and partnerships for the world’s largest live video platform.
