Today marks the launch of a new feature on NLGJA’s main website, a weekly roundup of front pages from the country’s LGBT newspapers and magazines.

It is part of a larger revamp of www.nlgja.org that is set to debut later this spring.

Every Friday the page hosting the front page roundup will be updated with copies of that week’s front covers of LGBT publications, similar to the Newseum’s daily showcase of front pages from the nation’s mainstream newspapers.

The NLGJA Re:ACT blog will also highlight the various front pages every Friday to help drive traffic to the webpage. A portion of the inaugurual version can be seen in this screengrab:

In the latest edition of Press Pass Q, reporter Joe Siegel highlights the launch of this new initiative by NLGJA. As I told Siegel for his article, we hope it shines a greater spotlight on the various news outlets’ coverage of important issues to the LGBT community.

Any LGBT newspaper is invited to be included. The photos of the front pages will also be hyper-linked to the website of that newspaper or magazine.

To have your paper’s front page be featured each week, email a PDF copy to Bach Polakowski at bach@nlgja.org.

Along with the collection of LGBT news outlets’ covers, visitors to the webpage will notice another major change. NLGJA is introducing a new tagline (seen above) to better reflect the full scope of its membership.

Over the years the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association has discussed possible changes to its name, as it leaves out its bisexual and transgender members in the official title. Those discussions, while not resulting in a name change, have brought greater awareness about how NLGJA’s B and T members can feel excluded.

In an effort to address those concerns, the new website will carry the tagline “NLGJA The Association of LGBT Journalists.”
