12th Annual New York Benefit Raises Nearly $100,000
For NLGJA Programs

Headlines & Headliners:
NLGJA’s 12th Annual New York
Benefit. Attendees
included top names
from the worlds of
journalism, entertainment
and sports. Hosted
by ABC News, the
event raised nearly
$100,000 to support
NLGJA ’s
programs.
ABC News Chief Investigative
Correspondent Brian
Ross emceed the evening,
the highlight of which
being the announcement of NLGJA’s
second Leroy F. Aarons Scholarship Award to third-year Indiana
University student
Colin Dugdale. A columnist
and reporter for the Indiana Daily Student, Dugdale’s work
has earned him nine “Best
Column” awards as well as two “Best Columnist” (Fall
2005 and 2006) awards.
As part of the scholarship award, Dugdale will receive tuition
funding, a professional mentor and a space
in NLGJA’s print/online newsroom at the National Convention
Student Projects.
In his opening remarks,
Ross praised NLGJA
for its commitment
to ensuring fairness
and accuracy in the reporting
of issues affecting
the lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgender (LGBT) community. Ross
was one of many special
guests who contributed
their time to supporting
NLGJA’s
ongoing mission and
year-round outreach efforts.
