NLGJA Announces 2007-2008 Board & Officers at Annual Conference

Washington, DC — The National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) announced during its 2007 National Convention two new Executive Committee members and 12 new general seats on its National Board of Directors.

Margaret McElligott of washingtonpost.com and Douglas Stewart of WTIC-TV (Hartford, CT) both replaced outgoing members of the organization’s Executive Committee to become National Secretary and National Vice President for Broadcast, respectively.

The individuals joining the board to fill the 12 general seats further reflects the organization’s geographic and professional diversity, working as public relations professionals and freelance, print, broadcast and online journalists in markets ranging from Anchorage, AK to Miami, FL.

“Breaking Stories, Breaking Waves,” NLGJA’s 2007 National Convention & 4th Annual LGBT Media Summit, was held August 30-September 2 in San Diego, CA. In addition to an annual meeting of NLGJA’s National Board of Directors, the conference featured nearly 40 professional development sessions and over 10 networking receptions for the 450 journalists and media professionals in attendance. Click here for official convention coverage produced by the organization’s Student Project, a program that convenes approximately 20 journalism and mass communication college students annually to report conference news in print, online and broadcast.
