"As the only professional journalist organization that works
within our profession to foster fair and accurate coverage of
LGBT issues, we believe
it is especially important to spotlight and recognize outstanding
journalistic endeavors,” said Pamela Strother, NLGJA Executive
Director.
“Our mission of fair and accurate coverage includes recognizing
the best work produced by LGBT journalists, and our annual awards
are a significant part of that recognition. This year, we will
again expand the program with a new award, one with special significance.
We can think of no better way to further reward our colleagues'
professionalism than to include an award for student journalism,
recognizing the next generation of news gatherers that our late
founder, Roy Aarons, was so dedicated to helping," said
Eric Hegedus, NLGJA National President.
