About NLGJA's Indiana Chapter

Hoosier journalists formed the Indiana Chapter of NLGJA in early 2006. The chapter is working to establish itself in a state where major media outlets are far from one another. The chapter includes members from Indianapolis, Bloomington, Fort Wayne, Muncie and South Bend, among other communities.

Although we're one of the smaller chapters in NLGJA, we have big plans! Long-term chapter goals include working with college students in journalism programs and helping colleagues around Indiana fairly and accurately cover LGBT issues. We plan to have regular events around the state to reach current members and welcome those who want to join us.

Please contact our chapter president if you want to join the chapter.

NLGJA-Indiana's David L. Adams Memorial Scholarship

NLGJA's Indiana chapter is pleased to accept applications for its 2008 David L. Adams Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship will honor an Indiana journalism student who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to NLGJA’s mission. The scholarship will include a one-year student membership in NLGJA and $500 for educational costs. Applications must be received on or before May 1, 2008, and the recipient will be notified and honored later in the year.

David L. Adams was a professor of journalism and director of student media at Indiana University for two decades. He devoted his life to student journalism, serving also as director of the Journalism Education Association, president of the College Media Advisers and chairman of the Student Press Law Center board. He was a member of the chapter and key in creating this scholarship before his unexpected death in June 2007.
